istgt iSCSI DVD target – istgt.conf

So you’ve got an ISO downloaded, you need it available on an initiator, no unpacking, burning… walking to the server. With istgt you can create a DVD target to share the ISO file as a DVD device. The documentation is a little non existent for this from what I can see, or a little bit all in Japanese, so here is an example LogicalUnit config to do this.

In /usr/local/etc/istgt/istgt.conf

[LogicalUnit1]
Comment "DVD (iqn.2001-03.com.example:dvd)"
TargetName dvd
TargetAlias "Test DVD1"
Mapping PortalGroup1 InitiatorGroup1
AuthMethod Auto
AuthGroup AuthGroup2
UnitType DVD
UnitOnline yes
ReadOnly yes
UnitInquiry "FreeBSD" "iSCSI Disk" "0123" "10000001"
LUN0 Removable "ro" /iso/FreeBSD-8.2-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso 650MB

    • Ah yes, I see iPXE is the official replacement for gPXE. I will need to go back to the lab to test some more.

Do you have a link to any documentation for booting iSCSI CD/DVD, do you use sanhook?
